First Aid Training

Well, ‘training’ is probably a bit OTT, but today I attended a first aid class at the local children’s centre :) I’ve even got a certificate (that’s for life, don’t have to redo the course in 5 years or anything… can put it on my CV apparently, woohoo! ;) )

I’d asked the community health nurse, who came for Thomas’s 12-16 week visit, about infant resuscitation courses, as we’ll be starting him on solids at 6 months and naturally want to ensure we know what to do in the event of choking on some food, or of course anything he can grab once he starts to crawl (which will ideally be nothing of danger, but they always find something you’ve missed!). So I got booked onto this 2 hour class, which went through resuscitation for adults, children and babies, plus dealing with choking, cuts, injuries and burns.

I certainly feel a lot more confident in saving someone’s life now, so job done :D

Thats great Sarah, we didnt get the chance to do one at the Childrens Centre we go to, but suggested it as a future course when we had the opportunity. Unfortunately they seem to be reducing classes/courses these days :(

The lady today was from the Red Cross and said that they had funding until August to provide these courses so not sure if it’s worth phoning up to see if there are any on? If not, could you not go to one further afield? I don’t know if you’re restricted to the area, although there were people there today who live a reasonable distance away, so I don’t see why you couldn’t go to that (I can send you details of where etc. if you want).

It’s worth it just for peace of mind and reassurance if nothing else :)
